The DataBee Set Designer Application

The DataBee Set Designer application is used to construct the collection of rules (called an Extraction Set) which is used by the Set Extractor application to extract the rows from the source Oracle database. The Set Designer is one component in a suite of applications used to accomplish the task of building a smaller Oracle Database from the contents of a larger one. For a step-by-step guide to DataBee and the tools and processes involved please see the DataBee manual home page. If you are unsure about what an Extraction Set is and why you might need one please see the useful Extraction Set Overview page.

The DataBee Set Designer Application

As with all DataBee applications, the Set Designer presents its global functions (loading, saving, exiting etc.) as a column of buttons in the right hand side of the application window. The tabs on the top left are used to provide areas of major functionality where the currently loaded Extraction Set can be built or modified. Along the bottom of the window are three status line areas where DataBee provides information about its current state.

The Global Functions

The Bee Logo Button
The Bee Logo button brings up an "About" dialog box which provides information on the DataBee version and support contact information.
New Set Wizard
The New Set Wizard button greatly simplifies the creation of a new Extraction Set. The Wizard will present a series of screens - and explain each step in turn. Use this tool whenever you need to create a new Extraction Set.
Clear Set
The Clear Set button clears the existing Extraction Set information from the Set Designer application. If there are unsaved changes to the currently loaded Extraction Set the option of discarding or saving the changes will be offered.
Load Set from File
The Load Set from File button reads in a Extraction Set and configures the Set Designer to use it. Once the set is loaded it can be modified and re-saved.
Save Set
Saves the set to a disk file. The saved Extraction Set file is a standard user readable text file. It is inadvisable to manually modify an Extraction Set file. Please see the warnings in the Extraction Set Overview before editing it.
Save Set As
Saves the set to a disk file with a new name.
Row Count Report
Generates a useful report containing the tablenames, source row counts and extracted row counts. More information on this topic can be found on the Row Count Report dialog box help page.
Rule Report
Generates a report listing all of the rule relationships in the extraction set. This report is very useful for documenting the table relationships in a database. More information on this topic can be found on the Rule Report dialog box help page.
The Tabs
Set Schemas
The Set Schemas Tab displays the names of the Source and (optionally) destination Oracle users. Also shown is information about the currently loaded Extraction Set. Please see the specific Set Schemas Tab page for detailed information on this topic.
Set Tables
The Set Designer will, as part of its operation, acquire the definitions and structure of all tables in the source Oracle schemas defined in the Set Schemas Tab. This tab provides a ready reference to the tables in the schema and indicates whether or not they are used in an Extraction Set. Please see the specific Set Tables Tab page for detailed information on this topic.
Set Rules
This is an extremely important Tab which supports the creation, editing and dropping of rules for the Extraction Set. Most of the work done when building an Extraction Set is begun using the tools on this Tab. Please see the specific Rules Tab page for detailed information on this topic.
Rule Tools
This Tab contains a variety of tools to assist with the generation of rules and to identify the relationships between tables. Please see the specific Rules Tools Tab page for detailed information on this topic.
Misc. Setup
This tab provides a variety of configuration options. Please see the specific Misc. Setup Tab help page for detailed information on this topic.
